I don’t have a favorite post on Tumblr, I don’t have things that I ‘always’ reblog.

ok, i saw this post a couple days ago and i was going to let it go. was totally prepared to just scoff “ugh!” and let it go, but the reader in me, coupled with my insomnia, is just not allowing that to happen.

first of all, i don’t think whoever posted this has realized the sort of repercussions this could have. i don’t claim to know john green, but neither does this anon. where is the video “evidence” here?

i know of a lot of other videos with john green that would contest this image of him as a pervert and/or mysoginist

(like i couldn’t even find something relevant to pervert. the closest i got was squirrels).

…..also, why so many things about squirrels? JOHN GREEN IS A SQUIRREL PERVERT

anyway, what mainly pisses me off is the accusation that john green is inappropriate with female fans, or even possibly a sexual predator. like i said, i don’t know the guy personally, but i am assuming neither does this anon. they also give no basis for their claim other than words.

and, let me clarify, i’m not a nerdfighter. although i probably would be if he and hank didn’t talk so fast. i’ve seen a few vlogbrothers videos, and i’ve read one JG book. i will not blindly follow and agree with everything John-Green-yes-John-Green-i-love-him-John-Green says. what pisses me off is that John Green has a wife, a child, a brother, other family people probably, i mean i am assuming he has parents and such, and this post makes a serious and presently unfounded accusation that has the potential to affect all of the aforementioned John Green family friends enemies and/or acquaintances, as well as JG himself.

as a writer and vlogger Monsieur Vert’s emotions, opinions, life outlook, other deep shit, etc. are out there for consumption. to me, he seems like a pretty nice guy. you don’t have to agree with everything he says, but you don’t have to accuse him of inappropriate conduct either.

as for the Manic Pixie Dream Girl, I’ve only read The Fault in Our Stars. And I guess this is why i’m making this terribly long, rambling post that no one is going to read in the first place. because this book was a strange comfort when my best friend was diagnosed with cancer, and it’s the reason I admire John Green. his story was very honest and true and here’s how:

considering Hazel Grace was the narrator and she did not seem particularly pixie-y (minus the chemo hair) or manic, I think she can be ruled out as the MPDG character. We as the reader do not fantasize over Hazel Grace, because we are Hazel Grace—sort of, at least for 313 pages. here, the Dream Girl is actually the guy: Augustus Waters. everyone wants one of the hot guys from Glee to play him in the movie or something. he’s an intellectual dreamboat with a hot prosthetic.

But John Green himself has said that the witty, wise “Augustus” who we fall in love with is, in reality, Gus who’s just vomited all over himself at a gas station at 3 in the morning with his g-tube infected and he can’t even get himself a damn pack of cigarettes. he’s been through more than most 17 year olds, but he is still a 17 year old. not a god, not a MPDG/B. that’s the point, that is so much the point. so can we recognize the effectiveness of using that character as a front to highlight our own naiveté in accepting them as an impossibly perfect human being?
